Ever had the thought of trying a new sport not available at the local high schools?
Rugby is now available through a club team named the Jesters. The team is coached by Eric McAlvey who also coaches the Whitman Rugby team. Rugby is a game of 15 vs. 15 players, 70 minutes of game time for U-19's. Every player runs, passes, tackles and kicks the ball. It is continuous action and very dynamic. The Jester’s do no make any cuts. If the player attends the practices they will get game time. Rugby has 15 different positions requiring many different body types and skill sets. There is a position for everyone! The Jesters are members of Rugby Washington, playing for the annual state championship. There are also All-Star selections for regional select players, which can even lead to selection for the U-19 National Team.
The Jesters are currently looking for high school age kids who would like to join the team. They officially
begin training on January 24th. Currently they train Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4-5:40pm on the Harper Joy field on the Whitman College Campus right next to the Harper Joy Theatre parking lots. Their games are held on Saturdays. People can join at any time during the season, which runs through the first weekend of May.
