Basket Weaving Classes

Explore the historical art of basket weaving and create a beautiful and functional basket to take home with you! Basket weaving classes will be held at Fort Walla Walla Museum. There will be two basket weaving classes this fall, on Oct. 11 and Nov. 22. Both days the class will be from noon-4 p.m.

Students will create an Appalachian Egg Basket, which is a double bottomed basket. Round and flat reeds for the creation of the basket will be provided. The main colors of reeds available are a natural blond color, or a light pink/brown. Some other dyed reeds will be available for contrast weaving.

Participants should wear older clothing and bring an old towel that can be placed across the lap to ensure that participants stay dry and dye-free. Waterproof gloves may also be used.

This class is for students ages 14 years and older. Cost is $20 for museum members and $25 for non-members. To sign up for either class please call 509-525-7703 during the museum hours of operation. Class dues can be paid in the gift shop on the day of the class.

The museum is open daily from 10-5 and is located at 755 Myra Rd. in Walla Walla.
