Pete Kephart's Fire Paintings

Pete Kephart's fire painting technique has been getting a lot of local press lately. That's because his work will be on display at CAVU Cellars and the artist will be doing a demonstration of his work!

Pete's fire painting technique is the only one of its kind in the world and he will be doing a demonstration of his work for the public on May 2nd at 4 p.m.

The Process:
The process begins with a sheet of paper stapled to a board. Then, a bonfire is lit in the woods. As the fire grows the artist spreads gunpowder across the paper. He then creates a design with water and allows the water to absorb into the paper. The gunpowder is ignited and the board is held over the fire so that the fire burns away the dry paper around the wet design. The drawing is embellished with charcoal and sometimes soft pastels.

The Place:
CAVU Cellars is located at 175 E. Aeronca Ave. near the airport. Pete Kephart's work will be on display from April 25th to May 13th. Stop by and view the fire paintings while they're here! The demonstration of the work will be on May 2nd at 4:00 p.m. at CAVU Cellars.
