Day 46: Walla Walla Christmas Bird Count

The Walla Walla Christmas bird count has been an annual event in Walla Walla since 1973.  Audubon and other organizations use data collected in the longest-running wildlife census to assess the health of bird populations and to help guide conservation action. The 15 mile count radius is divided into several assigned routes. Volunteers simply count every bird they see or hear on their route. Experienced bird watchers will be paired with novices. The count lasts all day or however long it takes to complete the route. The volunteers will meet for supper at the end of the day. To participate, contact  MerryLynn at m.denny@charter.net or call her at 509-529-0080. Bird count volunteers will be meeting the morning of the event, at 7:30 a.m. at Harper Joy Theatre parking lot on the Whitman College campus.
