The Walla Walla Community Hospice is hosting an Evening of Elegance. The event takes place at the Marcus Whitman Hotel on Saturday, February 11th at 6pm. Wine, hors d'oeuvres, and a four-course dinner are included in the $95 per person ticket price. Groups of 10 people may arrange to sit at the same table. Proceeds from the evening will benefit Walla Walla Community Hospice. WWCH is a non-profit committed to providing quality hospice care to adults and children facing a limited life expectancy. No patient is ever denied hospice services for financial reasons. WWCH relies on the support of the community through donations and fundraisers to defray expenses.

The Four Tenors at Power House Theatre

The Four Tenors are coming to Walla Walla to perform at the Power House Theatre February 10-26. The Four Tenors perform a variety of Pop, Country, Rock, Broadway, and Classical music. Banff Film Festival Tour at Whitman

The Banff Film Festival will be in Walla Walla at Whitman College tonight, January 24th. The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour brings Banff to audiences around the globe. Each year, the films travel to 32 countries reaching more than 245,000 people at over 635 screenings. The Banff World Tour team chooses about 25 films that feature a range of styles and themes, including climbing, skiing, kayaking, biking, adventure, culture and the environment.

The festival will be held on the Whitman Campus at Cordiner Hall. Doors will open at 6:30pm and the program starts at 7pm. Tickets will be available for purchase at the Whitman book store and the Outdoor Program Rental Shop in the Reid Campus Center building at the corner of Park St. and Boyer Ave. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids 17 and under, and free for Whitman faculty, staff, and students with valid ID

Bene Vint Wine Auction and Night of of Entertainment is an evening of fabulous live music, wonderful wine, delectable desserts, and savory cheese - all while supporting Camp Fire USA that serves Walla Walla's children. The Walla Walla Winter Chamber Music Festival presents it's first annual Winter Music Festival, January 12th-15. The Festival has partnered with six venues throughout the Walla Walla Valley to bring classical chamber music to a broad audience. Each year the Walla Walla Valley Chamber of commerce requests designs for the official Balloon Stampede poster. This years theme is Splendor in the Sky. It is in reference to the beauty of the balloons gracing the skies over the Walla Walla Valley for the weekend. This will be the 38th annual Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce BalloonStampede. It will be held at the Walla Walla County Fairgrounds on May 11-13, 2012. Design entrees for the posters can be any form of artwork, such as drawings, paintings, photographs, and graphic design. All designs must have the official title, Walla Walla Balloon Stampede presented by Gesa Credit Union, the event dates, and that it is the 38th Annual Balloon Stampede. Jazzercise in Walla Walla is having an open house January 7-9. This is a great time to try out a class. The Jazzercise workout program combines jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga and kickboxing movements into one 60-minute total body workout. Each workout blends dance aerobics with muscle toning and stretching movements, all choreographed to today’s hottest music, including Top 40, jazz, country, funk, rock, blues and hip hop. Saturday classes are 7:30am and 9am, Sunday is 9am and 4:30pm, and Monday is 9am, 4:30pm and 5:35pm. This month there is a promotion for those who join the program. Cheap skate days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the School Winter Break. Skating is open from 1-3pm, with a $3. admission fee. The Farmers Market is back this Saturday for a Holiday Market. The 5th annual Holiday Market will be open from 10am to 2pm. Galin will be there with Asian Vegetables, Octopus Garden Honey will be selling their 100% Beeswax Candles, Tender Treasures will have hair bows that can be put on Christmas Packages, Czyhold Metal Design will have unique Christmas Trees made from recycled barbwire & tin, plus many other great vendors. The Holiday Made in Walla Walla Boxes will also be available. There are only 100 boxes made with two styles to choose from. The boxes includes an assortment of specialty treats, soaps, crafts, and decorations in a festive box. The boxes are $30. each and can be pre-ordered by calling

The Maple Counter Cafe is now open. They are serving Gourmet Breakfasts and Handcrafted Lunches from 7am to 4pm Tuesday through Saturday and with Breakfast only on Sunday. The Cafe is housed in a beautiful building at 209 E Alder Street in Walla Walla. They serve a large variety of Gourmet Burgers, Chicken Sandwiches, Salads, French Baked Omelettes, Stylish Egg Entree, Creative Pancakes, and Common Fare Breakfast Entrees. We tried their Breakfast House Specialty- Apple Pancake. It is made in the tradition of a souffle baked in the oven until at least 3 inches high. It is filled with 3 sliced apples and covered with pure cinnamon glaze. This entree is for a large appetitie. We split it and were so full we could only eat 1/2 of it. It was delicous. The lunch House Specialty is Old country Beef and Dumpling Soup. This is an eastern Europe Soup that is both sweet and savory. It is packed with tender beef, fresh dumplings, and plenty of cabbage and vegetables. It comes with a warm roll. The Cafe plans to be open on Mondays starting in January. Stop by and enjoy the great food and the most friendly service.

The Kirkman House Museum is presenting an exhibit called The Vicarious Traveler. Over 100 stereographs are on display and nearly twice that number available for personal viewing with their vintage viewers. When seen through a viewer they produce a 3-D image allowing viewers to travel to far off lands vicariously from the comfort of their own parlors. Do you love to write poems and stories? Two creative writing classes, one aimed for adults and the other for youths are being offered at Carnegie Center in Walla Walla. The Adult class is for novice and seasoned fiction writers. They will answering questions, such as how to write a story that is compelling to readers.

The J.U.G.S annual Paint the Town Pink Party is Friday, September 23rd from noon to 6 pm. The event will take place on First and Main Street in Downtown Walla Walla. Merchants will set up booths along the street, offering pink hair extensions and feathers. There will be face-painting, mask decorating, palm reading and chair massages. A photo booth will also be set up, and cotton candy will be sold. J.U.G.S is an abbreviation for Just us girls sharing. The Pairings on Main Street in Downtown Walla Walla is a fundraiser that takes place on Saturday, September 24th. Proceeds from the event benefit the Providence St. Mary Special Needs Fund.

The Pairings begin at 6:00pm to 8:30 p.m. Pairings on Main participants can visit selected establishments to enjoy pairings of wine and food and will receive a wine glass to take home. A local band will perform live on the Plaza from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Participants will enjoy delicious samplings from some of Walla Walla's finest

Restaurants and tasting rooms.

Tickets are $40 per person, and are available at any of the participating businesses or the Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center.

The 2011 Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center Gran Fondo will be September 24th. The Gran Fondo captures the Italian tradition of "The Great Ride," and translates it into an event that offers wine tasting, cycling, walking, horseback riding, and a motorcycle tour.

The Bicycling event has 3 catagories:
The Crush: A 22-mile ride led by Dr. Michael Breland through wine country with optional stops at wineries.
Midi Crush Ride: A 35-mile ride looping through the wine and wheat country.
Gran Fondo: A 60-mile ride through farmland, orchards and vineyards.

The Walk of Strength is a 2.5 or 4.1 mile walk along Mill Creek.

The horseback ride is a hour and a half ride around Bennington Lake.

The motorcycle ride is a 100+ mile tour through the foothills of Eastern Washington.

Admission to the events are $45 for individuals, $65 for families (parents and their children under 18). Cancer survivors are half price, $22.50. Teams of 10 or more people can participate for $25 per person. The admission fee includes a Walla Walla Sweet Onion Sausage lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

One hundred percent of the net proceeds for this event will go to the Providence St. Mary Special Needs Fund, which helps local low-income cancer patients. Day 295: Walla Walla Corn Maze

The Walla Walla Corn Maze is open on Thursday,September 22nd. It is a fun fall activity for all ages. This will be the 12th year that the corn maze has been in operation. The design of the maze is changed every two weeks. The maze has some scary nights planned right before Halloween. The hours for the corn maze are Thursday 6-10pm, Friday 6-11pm, Saturday 2-11pm, and Sunday 4-9pm. They are in operation through the end of October. a concession stand, hotdogs by Buff, and portable restrooms are offered at the site. It is encouraged that you bring a flash light when you come. Admission for children 3 years and under is free of charge. Children 4-11years are $4 each. For those that are 12 years of age and older the fee is $6. Children must be accompanied by an adult. You can find the corn maze by following the signs east on Isaacs to Five Mile Road/Mill Creek Y. Take Five Mile Rd on right. One mile to last house on left on Five Mile Road. Follow signs.

The Walla Walla Valley Quilt Festival will be having their 12th annual quilt show, Fiesta Fiesta, on September 16th - 18th at the Walla Walla County Fairgrounds. The Coppei Coffee Company is a new coffee shop in Waitsburg. They are Waitsburg's living room, where you can meet your friends, enjoy a great Italian espresso, pastries, lunch, ice cream and sodas. The Coffee Shop serves breakfast and lunch. They have just added pizza to the menu. They are open Mondays from 6am-2pm, Tuesday through Friday 6am-4pm, Saturday 8am-6pm and Sunday 8am-3pm. The Walla Walla Fair and Frontiers Day Rodeo is Friday, Saturday & Sunday, September 2, 3, 4 starting at 7pm each evening. Walla Walla is the first stop on the Big 4 Rodeo circuit. Before each evenings rodeo there will be a mutton busting event. This year the rodeo will have and instant video replay. The professional bull fighter is Rowdy Barry. Rowdy is an American Professional Bullfighter member, a veteran of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and has been around rodeo all his life. The Walla Walla County Fair kicks off on Wednesday, August 31st with free gate admission from 11am to 3pm. The Fair goes through Sunday, September 4th. Enjoy stopping by the animal barn, the kids farm center, the carnival and the large variety of exhibits. Entertainment will be provided daily on the Pepsi stage at the Pavillion. Livestock judging will take place in the mornings. Cool off this Summer at the Joe Humbert Aquatic Center in Milton-Freewater. The Aquatic Center features a zero depth pool with slides and water toys for all ages plus a three story water slide.The Center is open seven days per week through August 21. There are two sessions, 11:30am to 4pm and 5:30pm to 8pm.
