Walla Walla Guitar Festival

The 2013 Coyote Kings Invitational Walla Walla Guitar Festival kicks off Friday, March 8th.
The two day festival features 17 top Northwest Blues & Roots acts playing in four venues all within 3 blocks in  downtown Walla Walla. Below is a list of events for the weekend:

Michael Kaeshammer Trio at the Gesa Power House Theatre

The Michael Kaeshammer Trio will be in concert at the Gesa Power House Theatre on Sunday, March 2nd. Kaeshammer is a piano prodigy who performs boogie-woogie, blues, jazz, and pop cross-over material.  He has a piano technique to burn and to his audience’s delight has an acrobatic way with a grand piano. Tickets prices range from $20. to $35. per person. Tickets may be purchased online at phtww.com. The Gesa Power House Theatre is located at 111 North 6th Avenue in Walla Walla.

The Tempest at Harper Joy Theatre

The Tempest is being performed at the Harper Joy Theatre, February 27 through March 3, 2013. The Tempest by William Shakespeare, is a magical tale full of romance, adventure, humor, and drunken louts. It is a story about a man named  Prospero, who is trapped on an island by his power-hungry brother. He gets his chance for revenge when a ship carrying his brother passes by on it's way to Naples.
The Tempest is performed at 8pm on Wednesday-Friday, and at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday in the Freimann Studio Theatre on the Whitman College Campus. Tickets are $12. for adults, $8. for seniors and students. Whitman College student tickets are free of charge.

J.U.G.S Annual Pink Ball

The annual J.U.G.S Pink Ball is March 2nd at the Walla Walla County Fair and Frontier Days Pavilion. J.U.G.S, which are the initials for Just Us Girls Sharing, is a local non profit group who help people in the community with their battle with cancer. The Pink Ball is the groups main fundraiser. Funds raised from the event go to a special account that is used to help cancer victims on a personal level with unexpected financial burdens.
This years Pink Ball will feature dinner and dessert prepared by Andrea's Kitchen. Following dinner is a fashion runway show with clothing from local shops. Also included in the show will be a Stage Fantasy Hair Challenge among local stylists. Guests may stop by the Pink Ball's photo booth, purchase special event labeled wine or take part in the Bra Auction. AAUW Book Sale at the Marcus Whitman Hotel

The AAUW Book Sale is set for February 22-24 at the Marcus Whitman Hotel in Walla Walla. The sale takes place in the Hotel's Ballrooms. Thousands of boxes of used books will be on sale with prices from 50 cents to $3. Books on sale include first editions, regional materials, huge collection of children’s books, special interest topics, cookbooks, military, vintage, business, biographies, science fiction, mystery and much, much more. Children who attend the sale will receive a free book of their choice. Proceeds from the sale benefit college scholarships and local educational projects and organizations. The AAUW Book Sale will be open Friday,noon -8pm, Saturday, 9am-8pm, and Sunday, 9am-4pm.

February is for Foodies in Walla Walla

February is for Foodies in Walla Walla. Enjoy a month long celebration of cooking classes, gourmet food, wine and chocolate. Cooking classes will be taught by the  Wine Country Culinary Institute at Titus Creek Cafe at the Walla Walla Community College Campus.  Chef David Belcher of South Fork Grill will be the featured Chef for the cooking demonstration on February 16th. February 23rd, Antonio Campolio of the Marcus Whitman Hotel, and Pastry Chef Mandi will be on site for demonstrations. The cooking classes start at 11am and finish with a brunch and question and answer segment from 12:45-2pm. The fee to attend the events is $40. and can be paid at the time of the class. Pre-registration is not required.
Local eateries and wineries will be offering special entrees during the month.
Maple Counter offers 3 White Chocolate Pancakes with Homemade Raspberry Syrup and fresh whipped Lemon Butter, 2 pieces of bacon, sausage links or veggie links, a coffee and fresh squeezed juice all for $10!
Salumiere Cesario is serving their version of boeuf bourguignon for $12. per plate.
The Marcus Whitman Hotel’s Vineyard Lounge is offering a  three-course meal for $25.
Olive Marketplace & Cafe has a three course meal of your choice for $20 and a chocolate mousse on their dessert menu.
Whitehouse/Crawford is serving up a three-course meal for $35, one of the options is a lamb ragu.
Red Reina is offering a meatloaf sandwich with swiss cheese and grilled onions along with potato salad for $10.95.
Walla Walla Vintners tasting room is featuring Bright's Candies and free wine tasting.
Dunham Cellars is giving away a complimentary tin of Wine Lovers Chocolate with every purchase of their 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon.

Industry Party & Anniversary Celebration

TERO Estates & Flying Trout Wines are inviting the community to an Industry Party & Anniversary Celebration toasting their 2nd anniversary at the Marcus Whitman Hotel in Walla Walla. Don Carlo Vineyard, Lodmell Cellars and Locati Cellars will also be participating in this event. The wineries will open there doors Monday, February 11 from 6-8pm. The tasting rooms will offer wine tastings, live music and special food offerings. Guests will have the opportunity to enter a raffle to win a prize donated by the tasting rooms. The Marcus Whitman Hotel is located at 6 West Rose Street in Walla Walla.

Mouse Trap at the Little Theatre of Walla Walla

The Little Theatre of Walla Walla presents Agatha Christie's, The Mouse Trap. Performances are Feb. 8, 9, 15, 16, 17,22, 23. All shows start at 8pm. The February 17th show is a matinee and starts at 2pm.
The Mouse Trap stage is set in a stranded boarding house during a snow storm. A group of strangers end up being stranded at the house and one of them is a murderer. A newly wed couple run the boarding house. The guests include a spinster, an architect, a retired Army major, a unknown strange man, a jurist and a policeman. The policeman must look into the background of the guests to solve the murder. What he unravels ends up being a lot of skeletons in the closet.
Tickets for the show are $14. each and can be purchased at the door or online at ltww.org.

Father and Daughter Valentine Dances in the Valley

Valentine's Day is next week and there are a number of Father Daughter Valentine Dances happening in the Valley.

Walla Walla Parks & Recreation is sponsoring a Father & Daughter Valentine Ball, Saturday, February 23, 7pm-8:30pm at Garrison Middle School in Walla Walla. Dancing, games and prizes are all part of the program. Professional photography will be available before the ball between 6 and 7pm. The cost to attend is $15 per dad and daughter. Any special adult male (dad, grandpa, uncle,or family friend) may attend. Pre- registration is required. To register, call 509-527-4527.

The Milton-Freewater Jr. Show Father-Daughter Valentine Dance is Saturday, February 9th from 7-9pm at the Milton-Freewater Community Building. Flowers for the girls, music, photo, and appetizers are included. Proceeds from the event benefit the Milton-Freewater Jr. Show. Tickets are  $35 for a daughter-father (or father figure) duo, and $10 for each additional girl. Tickets will be available at the door or by calling 541-938-6586.

The Walla Walla Elks is hosting a Father Daughter Ball on Saturday, February 9th, from 5-9pm at the Walla Walla Elks Lodge. Dancing, food and door prizes are on the venue. Tickets are $5. per person or $20. per family. For information and tickets call 509-525-2870.

First Thursday Concerts at St. Paul's Episcopal Church

St. Paul's Episcopal Church offers a free musical concert the first Thursday of each month. The concerts start at 12:15 and go through the lunch hour. Traditionally St. Paul's have hosted professional classical musicians, jazz performers, choirs, youth and local musical groups. Musicians offer the concert free of charge. Donations at the concerts are accepted for a charity of the performers choice. Guests are encouraged to bring their lunch and enjoy the music.
This Thursday, February 7th, Gary Hemenway, jazz pianist from the Whitman College Music Department will be performing. Donations will be accepted for Friends of Children of Walla Walla.
St. Pauls Episcopal Church is located at 323 Catherine Street in Walla Walla.
