Opening Night for Walla Walla Sweets

The Walla Walla Sweets celebrate their third season in Walla Walla, at Borleske Stadium with opening night, Friday, June 1st. The Sweets will be playing  the Corvalis Knights. The first pitch will be thrown at 7:05pm. The teams will play a series of 3 games, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Sunday's series finale will include fireworks to complete the Opening Weekend.The Sweets mascot is back for another summer of ballpark fun. Catch Sweet Lou dancing between innings, racing the bases during the fourth inning and even hanging out in the bullpen prior to the game.

Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival Free Events

The Chamber Music Festival is performing 16 free music concerts in the community during the month of June. Opening night is June 7th. A Children's concert, Construction Site: How To Build a Piece of Chamber Music, will be performed at De Sales High School at 4:30pm. The one-hour presentation will feature saxophone, clarinet and strings in music by Mozart, Beethoven and many more. This concert will be performed again on June 8th, 3:30pm, at the Columbia County Rural Library in Dayton.

There are three outreach concerts scheduled:
June 7, 12 p.m. — Rotary, Marcus Whitman Hotel, 6 West Rose St.
June 8, 10 a.m. — YMCA Concert for Seniors, 340 S. Park St.
June 20, 4:30 p.m. — Concert for Trilogy & Friends of Children of Walla Walla

The Chamber Music Festival also invites the public to attend 10 of their rehearsal concerts.

Dayton Days Parade

The 94th annual Dayton Days Parade will take place Saturday morning, May 26 on Main Street in Dayton,Washington. The kiddie parde starts at 9:30 followed by the main parade at 10. There will be marching bands, dancers, horse-mounted groups, drill team and cowboys as well as rodeo royalty. Following the parade the Wenaha Gallery will be hosting an art show from 11am-2pm with featured artists Judy Robertus, Caprice Scott, and Don Hollenbaugh.

Nia Fitness Classes

Nia Fitness Classes are now being taught through Parks & Recreation May 16 through July 8. Nia is designed to improve coordination, balance, and spine health.  Guided by music, participants move first from the base, the chest, arms, and head.  Core alignment not only relieves pain and prevents injury it also allows you to breathe efficiently, move with power, grace, and confidence.  Come try Nia for free; your first class in Nia is always free!  This class is instructed by Sarah Grant Sisk, Certified Nia White Belt instructor.  Classes are held Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Tri- State Steelheaders Crab Feed



The Tri-State Steelheaders are having their 35th annual crab feed on Thursday, May 17, in the community building at the Walla Walla Fairgrounds. The doors open at 5:30pm and dinner is served at 6:30pm. There will be live and silent auctions along with dollar raffles. The dinner menu includes shelled crab, shrimp, potato salad, spinach salad, asparagus, mixed green salad, coleslaw, Caeser salad, and baked beans. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Tri-State Steelheaders at 509-529-3543.


The Tri-State Steel headers mission is to restore sustainable populations of native salmonids by enhancing habitat, providing public education and promoting recreational angling for future generations.

Meadowood Springs Camp Auction:


Meadowood Springs will be holding an auction fundraising event on Sunday, May 27th, 2012. Meadowood Springs provides an exciting summer camp experience for individuals and families impacted by social learning and communication challenges. All funds raised from the event will go towards supporting the camps mission. Those who donate items for the auction will be invited to attend the event with one guest. The event will take place at Meadowood Springs Camp, located at 77650 Meadowood Rd, Weston, OR 97886 at 6pm on Sunday, May 27th, 2012. Those who would like to attend should call 541-276-2752 to RSVP.


Campers at Meadowood Springs enjoy activities such as swimming, hiking, miniature golf, canoeing, basketball, arts and crafts, and challenge courses, all of which are linked to one of Meadowood’s unique core programs. Through these core programs individuals and families develop life changing communication skills and interventions. To date, Meadowood’s unique programming has served over 3,000 individuals and continues to serve people from across the country.

WWU Presents Romeo and Juliet

The Walla Walla University Drama Department presents the Shakespeare production of Romeo and Juliet. This love story of the ages is adapted and Directed by Diana Farnsworth and will be performed May 12, 13, 17, 19 and 20th at Village Hall Stage at Walla Walla University. 38th Annual Walla Walla Balloon Stampede

The 38th annual Walla Walla Balloon Stampede is May 11-13th. Enjoy Mothers Day weekend by watching the balloons launch at 6:30 each morning. Friday night there will be a Champagne Reception and dance party. Saturday events include a car show, Nite Glow, and a Saturday night Dance Party. Watch for the weekend pancake breakfasts out at the Fairgrounds. Festival hours are Friday: 3pm - 9pm, Saturday: 8am - 11pm, and  Sunday: 8am - 3pm. There will be arts and craft vendors as well as a variety of festival food.  Many family orientated events will be taking place this year. Balloons will be launching from area schools on Friday morning. At the event on Saturday there will be a childrens activity center from 10am-4pm, a spelling bee for 4th and 5th graders in the Community Building 10am-6pm, and Family Fun Time fromm 5-7pm in the arena. Nite Glow will be held on Saturday evening in the arena at 9pm.

The Tempest

The Tempest in now being performed at the Power House Theatre. This Shakespheare production is directed by Dan Mc Cleary and is Co-produced with Tennessee Shakespeare Company. The Tempest is a story about the aging magician Prospero who discovers forgiveness for those who stole his dukedom only after his young daughter Miranda shows him the path to redemption. This tale features a variety of spirits, goddesses, and villains. Performances start at 7:30pm. Tickets can be purchased by calling the theatre at 529-6500. The Power House Theatre is located at 6th and Rose Street in Walla Walla.

Beginner Golf Lessons

 
Blue Mountain Community College is offering beginner golf lessons at the Milton-Freewater Golf Course. The four evening sessions are on Thursdays, May 10-31, 5:45-7:15pm. Tuition for the lessons are $64. or $39. for seniors and includes green fees. Matthew Chesnut will be the instructor.
