Day 305: Walla Walla Crush
Enjoy the beautiful scenery in the vineyards of the Walla Walla Valley while doing a 1 mile walk, 5K walk/run or a 10K run. The Blue Mountain Land Trust, Walla Walla Crush is scheduled for Saturday, October 8th at 9am at Pepper Bridge Farm. The course winds through Pepper Bridge , North Star, Va Piano, and Gifford-Hirlinger Vineyards. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers for the 5K and 10K in each of the following age categories. Under 21, 21-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. Fresh fruit and other refreshments are free to all participants. There is an awards ceremony at 11 a.m.. All entrants are eligible for prize drawings after the awards ceremony. The entry fee is $10. The cost for a T-shirt is $15. and the fee for a Reidel Wine Glass is $20. The wine glass can be used for complimentary wine tasting during normal business hours on October 8, 2011 at participating wineries. To register for the event, call 509.525.3136. Day 304: Little Theatre Production of God's Favorite
The Little Theatre is now performing Neil Simons production, God's Favorite. This play is about a successful Long Island businessman Joe Benjamin, who is a modern-day 'Job' with a high-maintenance wife, ungrateful children and wise-cracking household help. Just when it seems things couldn’t get any worse, he is visited by Sidney Lipton aka A Messenger from God (and compulsive film buff) with a mission: test Joe’s faith and report back to “the Boss”. This hilarious comedy spins a contemporary morality tale with flying jokes and tests of faith. Performances are October 1,2, 7, and 8. Tickets may be purchased by contacting the Little Theatre at (509) 529-3683. The cost for tickets is $10 for children and $14 for adults. Season Tickets are $40. Day 303: The Longest Table
The Longest Table in College Place is happening this Saturday, October 1st. University Church members bring the food, and WWU students bring their appetites as two blocks of 4th Street in College Place are transformed into The Longest Table. A great opportunity for students and local church members to celebrate Sabbath. Crews will be out as early as 6 a.m. setting up tables, chairs, tablecloths, and table numbers, and the feast begins as soon as church gets out around 1 p.m. This year the event will be held on College Avenue, between Whitman Drive and 4th Street.

Day 302: Creative Writing Classes for Youths and Adults
Do you love to write poems and stories? Two creative writing classes, one aimed for adults and the other for youths are being offered at Carnegie Center in Walla Walla. The Adult class is for novice and seasoned fiction writers. They will answering questions, such as how to write a story that is compelling to readers.
These classes are instructed by Sarah Kokernot and will be held on Tuesdays, October 4, 11, 18, 25, Nov 1 from 6:00-8:00 pm. The fee for the class is $68.
The youth creative writing class will incorporate games, collage, improv theater, and assigned readings. Participants will have their work anthologized in class chapbook. These classes are also instructed by Sarah Kokernot and are held on Wednesdays, October 5, 12, 19, 26, Nov 2 at 4:00-5:00 pm. The fee for the class is $28.
Both classs are held at Carnegie Center, 109 S. Palouse St. and have limited space. Pre-Registration is required. For more information call Parks and Recreation at 527-4527.

Day 301: American Association of University Women Kitchen Tour
The AAU Women Kitchen tour is happening this weekend on October 2nd. Participants will have the opportunity to tour eight remarkable remodeled kitchens. There will be a variety of styles in the homes that are toured. The tour is from 12-5pm. The cost for tickets is $20. Tickets can be purchased at Earthlight Books, Bright's Candies, Curves and at Jacobi's. Participants need to stop by Jacobi's between 12 and 2pm on Sunday to pick up their tour booklets and a map for the self guided tour. Proceeds from the tour benefit AAUW Scholorships and educational projects.

Day 300: 2nd Annual Sausage Fest Fun Run
The Walla Walla Catholic Schools 2nd Annual Sausage Fest Fun Run takes place Saturday, September 24th. The run is a 4.1 mile run, or a 3.8 mile walk. Proceeds benefit gymnasium improvements at DeSales Catholic High School. Runners and Walker's will meet in DeSales High School Parking lot. Registration starts at 8:30am and the run begins at 9:30am. The cost for registration with a T-shirt is $20.

Day 299: Paint the Town Pink Party
The J.U.G.S annual Paint the Town Pink Party is Friday, September 23rd from noon to 6 pm. The event will take place on First and Main Street in Downtown Walla Walla. Merchants will set up booths along the street, offering pink hair extensions and feathers. There will be face-painting, mask decorating, palm reading and chair massages. A photo booth will also be set up, and cotton candy will be sold. J.U.G.S is an abbreviation for Just us girls sharing. Proceeds from this event benefits Providence St. Mary's Cancer Center's Special Needs Fund for local breast cancer patients.

Day 297: The Pairings on Main Street Downtown Walla Walla
The Pairings on Main Street in Downtown Walla Walla is a fundraiser that takes place on Saturday, September 24th. Proceeds from the event benefit the Providence St. Mary Special Needs Fund.
The Pairings begin at 6:00pm to 8:30 p.m. Pairings on Main participants can visit selected establishments to enjoy pairings of wine and food and will receive a wine glass to take home. A local band will perform live on the Plaza from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Participants will enjoy delicious samplings from some of Walla Walla's finest
Tickets are $40 per person, and are available at any of the participating businesses or the Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center.

Day 296: 2011 Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center Gran Fondo
The 2011 Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center Gran Fondo will be September 24th. The Gran Fondo captures the Italian tradition of "The Great Ride," and translates it into an event that offers wine tasting, cycling, walking, horseback riding, and a motorcycle tour.
The Bicycling event has 3 catagories:
The Crush: A 22-mile ride led by Dr. Michael Breland through wine country with optional stops at wineries.
Midi Crush Ride: A 35-mile ride looping through the wine and wheat country.
Gran Fondo: A 60-mile ride through farmland, orchards and vineyards.
The Walk of Strength is a 2.5 or 4.1 mile walk along Mill Creek.
The horseback ride is a hour and a half ride around Bennington Lake.
The motorcycle ride is a 100+ mile tour through the foothills of Eastern Washington.
Admission to the events are $45 for individuals, $65 for families (parents and their children under 18). Cancer survivors are half price, $22.50. Teams of 10 or more people can participate for $25 per person. The admission fee includes a Walla Walla Sweet Onion Sausage lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
One hundred percent of the net proceeds for this event will go to the Providence St. Mary Special Needs Fund, which helps local low-income cancer patients. Day 295: Walla Walla Corn Maze
The Walla Walla Corn Maze is open on Thursday,September 22nd. It is a fun fall activity for all ages. This will be the 12th year that the corn maze has been in operation. The design of the maze is changed every two weeks. The maze has some scary nights planned right before Halloween. The hours for the corn maze are Thursday 6-10pm, Friday 6-11pm, Saturday 2-11pm, and Sunday 4-9pm. They are in operation through the end of October. a concession stand, hotdogs by Buff, and portable restrooms are offered at the site. It is encouraged that you bring a flash light when you come. Admission for children 3 years and under is free of charge. Children 4-11years are $4 each. For those that are 12 years of age and older the fee is $6. Children must be accompanied by an adult. You can find the corn maze by following the signs east on Isaacs to Five Mile Road/Mill Creek Y. Take Five Mile Rd on right. One mile to last house on left on Five Mile Road. Follow signs.

Day 294: Walla Walla Valley Quilt Festival
The Walla Walla Valley Quilt Festival will be having their 12th annual quilt show, Fiesta Fiesta, on September 16th - 18th at the Walla Walla County Fairgrounds. Stop by and see their quilts, quilt demonstrations and competitions. This years feature quilters are Meg Hawkey and Merideth Mitchell. The Quilt Festival is open 10am to 5pm daily. The admission fee is $5 for the whole weekend.

Day 293: Walla Walla Vintners
Walla Walla Vintners is a limited-production winery, dedicated to making premium red wines - Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Sangiovese, Syrah and specially crafted Bordeaux blends. Their 2008 Cuveé has a jam-packed beginning of ripe huckleberry and black currant, with a mid-palate of chocolate covered cherries and ends with an unbelievable finish of crushed oxheart cherry over French vanilla ice cream. Day 291: Wheelin' Walla Walla
Enjoy classic cars? Wheelin' Walla Walla comes to town Friday and Saturday, September 9th and 10th. The event kicks off Friday evening with a cruise from the Walla Walla Fairgrounds through the streets of Walla Walla. Saturday morning the cars will be parked along Main Street in Downtown Walla Walla for the Show'n Shine event, 10am to 4pm. Activities include a $1000.00 Poker Walk. Raffles and entertainment throughout the day. A Street Dance begins at 7:00 PM until 11:00 PM on the corner of 1st and Main Streets.

Day 290: Huckleberry Picking in the Blue Mountains
Huckleberry picking in the Blue Mountains is a fun way to spend a mid to late summer day. Huckleberries grow exclusively in rich, mid- to high-elevation forest zones. The berries are typically smaller than blueberries and have a sweet tart flavor. Harvest time for the berries is mid to late summer. Huckleberries taste great in pies, pancakes, jams, and most any recipe that calls for blueberries. Wear long pants and clothing you don't mind having berry stains on. The Blue Mountains are within an hours drive from Walla Walla.

Day 289: The Coppei Coffee Co.
The Coppei Coffee Company is a new coffee shop in Waitsburg. They are Waitsburg's living room, where you can meet your friends, enjoy a great Italian espresso, pastries, lunch, ice cream and sodas. The Coffee Shop serves breakfast and lunch. They have just added pizza to the menu. They are open Mondays from 6am-2pm, Tuesday through Friday 6am-4pm, Saturday 8am-6pm and Sunday 8am-3pm. The shop will be open later in the evening on home football game days. Coppei Coffe Company is located at 137 Main Street in Waitsburg.

Day 288: Walla Walla Fair and Frontiers Day Rodeo
The Walla Walla Fair and Frontiers Day Rodeo is Friday, Saturday & Sunday, September 2, 3, 4 starting at 7pm each evening. Walla Walla is the first stop on the Big 4 Rodeo circuit. Before each evenings rodeo there will be a mutton busting event. This year the rodeo will have and instant video replay. The professional bull fighter is Rowdy Barry. Rowdy is an American Professional Bullfighter member, a veteran of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and has been around rodeo all his life. The rodeo clown and barrel man is John Beck from West Jordan, Utah. The events at the rodeo are Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Bull Riding, Tie Down Roping, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, and WPRA Barrel Racing. Ticket prices are $12 and do not include gate admission to the Fair.
