Day 287: Bettys Diner
Bettys Diner in Waitsburg is a 50's style restaurant that serves traditional, hearty, homestyle American breakfast and lunch items. The entries are made to be kid and family friendly. The diner will be serving gourmet hamburgers, french fries, sandwiches, soups, pizzas, calzones and a daily dinner special. Beginning September 2nd, Bettys Diner will be open from 8am to 8pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. They are open Sunday from 8am to 2pm. The diner will open up on Wednesday evenings from 6pm-9pm for teenagers 13-19 years of age. Bettys Diner is located at 114 Preston Avenue in Waitsburg.

Day 286: Walla Walla County Fair
The Walla Walla County Fair kicks off on Wednesday, August 31st with free gate admission from 11am to 3pm. The Fair goes through Sunday, September 4th. Enjoy stopping by the animal barn, the kids farm center, the carnival and the large variety of exhibits. Entertainment will be provided daily on the Pepsi stage at the Pavillion. Livestock judging will take place in the mornings. New to the Fair this year is the Dutch Oven Cooking demonstrations and competition, mounted shooting in the rodeo arena, and Cowboy Church on Sunday at 9am in the rodeo arena. Thursday is Senior Citizen Day. Seniors 65 and over can attend the Fair for $4. entrance fee. Friday is kids day. Children ages 6-13 can enter the Fair for $2 admission and children 5 and under are free. General admission to the Fair is $7 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-13. Children 5 and under are free.

Day 285: 2011 Fair and Frontier Day Parade
The 2011 Fair and Frontier Day Parade is Saturday, September 3rd. This is parade offers fun and entertainment for the whole family. Enjoy watching 125 entries of great parade floats, a variety of rodeo courts, classic automobiles, marching bands, horse drawn wagons, clowns, and service organizations march down Alder Street and back up Main Street. Be sure to show up early and bring a seat if you would like one. The parde starts at 10am at the corner of 5th & Alder, travels East on Alder to Palouse Street, North on Palouse Street to Main Street. West on Main to 5th Avenue. South on 5th, East on Willow, South on Chase to the Fairgrounds.

Day 284: Anchor Bar in Waitsburg
Charles Smith has opened The Anchor Bar in Waitsburg. The Bar is located at 141 Main Street. The building is easily recognized with it being fully painted as a black and white flag. The bar offers home made food options such as grain fed beef hot dogs, home made sloppy joes, and tamales on Tuesday's. They feature live music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The bar is open Tuesda-Sunday from noon to midnight. They will be open for watching Monday night football in the fall on their big screenTV. The Anchor Bar serves beer, Charles Smith wine, and well drinks.

Day 283: Walla Walla Gun Club Fun Shoot
The Walla Walla Gun Club is having a 5-stand shoot on August 27th and September 24th. Participants shoot from five stations with a variety of clay target opportunities. The shoots are held at the East End Rod and Gun Club in Milton-Freewater at 564 County Road/ Milton Cemetary Road. The Saturday Shoots start at 8:30am for sign up and 9am for the shoot.

Day 282: Walla Walla County Fair Demo Derby
The Walla Walla Fair & Frontier Days demolition derby is Thursday, September 1st. There are 200 entries, for the 35 heat races ending with the finale, where about 40-50 cars crash and smash in the demo until only one car remains. The time trials start at 6pm. Derby tickets are $12 each. Gate admission to the Fair is extra. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Fairgrounds at 509-527-3247 or at the gate.

Day 281: The King and His Court
The King and His Court will be playing their retirement game at Borleske Stadium on August 27th. For the past 65 years the King & amp; His Court have entertained millions of fans creating tremendous memories from around the globe. Day 280: Walla Walla Fair and Frontiers Day Concert
The Walla Walla Fair and Frontiers Day Concert will have three bands this year. The Band Perry, Locash Cowboys, and Joey + Rory will be performing Wednesday, August 31st at 6:30pm in the Walla Walla County Fairgrounds. The Band Perry's latest single is You Lie. It just received a gold certification. The Locash Cowboys have a new singe, You Got Me. Joey + Rory have a new music video, Headache being released this month. Day 279: Walla Walla Community Hospice Pond and Garden Tour
The Walla Walla Community Hospice Pond and Garden Tour is September 10th from 9am-5pm. Ten fabulous Walla Walla area gardens, all with a pond or special water feature will be presented in the tour. Garden hosts will be on site to answer your questions! Complimentary light refreshments will be served at one of the locations. The tour is open to anyone over 12 years of age. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets can be purchased at Brights Candies and Gifts, the Walla Walla Community Hospice office, or by phone at 509-525-5561. The cost per ticket is $20. Proceeds from the sale benefit Hospice. Hospice provides compassionate care to patients in the final stages of life and provide support for caregivers and loved ones.

Day 278: Muddy Frogwater Country Classic Festival
The Muddy Frogwater Country Classic Festival provides a weekend full of fun family activities. The Festival kicks off on Friday, August 19th with an Ambassadors breakfast from 7am-9am. Join in the fun with a pretty baby contest, art show, kiddy land games, bingo, talent of the valley competition, Country BBQ, kite flying contest, and Muddy Frog Square dancers. Day 277: Jazz and Wine Among Friends at Waterbrook Winery
Waterbrook Winery is hosting Jazz and Wine Among Friends on Saturday, August 28th. The Crawford Glen Band and the Gail Pettis Quartet will be performing Jazz music at Waterbrooks outdoor setting. The performances will be coupled with gourmet appetizers, dessert, and Waterbrook wine. Festive cocktail attire is recomended. Tickets for the event are $60. and $50. for wine club members. Day 275: Joe Humbert Family Aquatic Center
Cool off this Summer at the Joe Humbert Aquatic Center in Milton-Freewater. The Aquatic Center features a zero depth pool with slides and water toys for all ages plus a three story water slide.The Center is open seven days per week through August 21. There are two sessions, 11:30am to 4pm and 5:30pm to 8pm.
Cost to swim is $3 for youth and $4.50 for adults. The Aquatic Center is located at 200 Dehaven Street in Milton-Freewater.

Day 274: Swansong at Power House Theatre
Swansong is now being performed at the Power House Theatre in Walla Walla. The Performance runs through August 14th. Swansong is the comedic and remarkable story of the friendship between Ben Jonson and William Shakespeare. The Power House Theatre is located at 111 N 6th Avenue in Walla Walla. Day 273: The Missoula Children’s Theatre & The Liberty Theater
The Missoula Children's Theatre and The Liberty Theater present a production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The performances will be Friday and Saturday, August 5th and 6th, at 7pm in the Liberty Theater in Dayton. All Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) Tour shows are performed by children who have completed Kindergarten through those students entering 12th grade. The cost of tickets are $5 to $7 each. Day 272: Petanque Tournament
A Petanque Tournament is being held at Couvillion Winery on Corkrum Road off Middle Waitsburg Road south of Waitsburg on Sunday, August 7th. Petanque, pronounced "pay-tonk", is a cousin of both horseshoes and of the Italian bowling game called 'bocce'. The game originated in the South of France in the early 1900's. The aim is to toss, or roll a number of hollow steel balls ("boules") as close as possible to a small wooden target ball, called "but" or "cochonnet" (French for "piglet"). Players take turns and the team that ends up nearest to the target ball when all balls are played, wins.

Day 271: YWCA Blue Mountain Bayou Party with a Purpose
Once again, the Bayou is coming to the foot of the Blue Mountains! Experience the hospitality and comfort foods of the South. Come listen to the crickets and bullfrogs and dine by the light of fireflies. Have a great time and bid on an array of over the top party packages. It is the 4th annual YWCA Party with a Purpose, Cajun style. The Blue Mountain Bayou event is Saturday September 17th at the Walla Walla Fairgrounds Pavilion. Day 269: National Night Out at Jefferson Park
National Night Out at Jefferson Park is Tuesday, August 2nd from 5:30 to 7:30pm. It is hosted by the Walla Walla Area Crime Watch and the Walla Walla Police Department. There will be more than 25+ agencies and organizations participating. This community event will offer free swimming at the Jefferson Park Pool, free hot dogs and root beer floats, provided by Banner Bank, and McDonalds will be giving away free ice cream cone cards to the first 500 kids who attend. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for local anti crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
