Celebrating New Years Eve in Walla Walla? Here are just a few Party’s we know of....
New Year’s Eve at the Elks Lodge featuring dinner by Wing and a Prayer and music by DJ Randy. There will be party favors, a champagne toast and breakfast after midnight. The cost is $30 for dinner and the party or $10 for the party only. The hours are from 6pm to 2am.
The Marcus Whitman Hotel is ringing the New Year in with style from 8pm to 1am. They offer door prizes, party favors, and a champagne toast by Tru Cellars. Cost is a $25 cover charge. A special New Year’s Eve Package is also available for $200 and includes your night’s stay, a $60 dinner voucher and two tickets to the Party!
Cross Roads Steak House has the Tommy Hogan Band performing for New Years Eve. The cost is $10 per person. The band is playing from 9pm to 1am. They encourage you to make reservations for dinner and come early.
The Oasis in Milton Free-Water has the Frog Hollow Band playing on New Years Eve from 9pm to 1am.

Day 60: Tennis
Tennis Anyone? Winter youth tennis lessons are being offered by The Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with the Whitman Women’s Tennis program. Youth of all abilities will receive instruction from Whitman College tennis players and coaches. Participants will be grouped by age and ability to maximize their learning and fun. Participants that are age and ability appropriate will play at a higher level receiving tournament preparation that includes fitness, strategy, and match play to prepare for high school and USTA tournaments.
Lessons for ages 4-10 are held at 3:30-4:45 p.m. Cost for this class is $55. Lessons for ages 10-18 are held at 5:00-7:00 p.m. Cost for this class is $75.
Students will receive a program t-shirt. Lessons for both age groups are Monday through Friday on January 10-14. Lessons will be held at Bratton Tennis Center, located at Whitman College. Space is limited!

Day 58: Sweetwater Paper & Home
Sweetwater Paper and Home not only offers cards and stationary but has a large variety of gift items. This store on the corner of 1st and Alder in downtown Walla Walla has 18 lines of greeting cards. In their paper line they have stationary, paper plates, and napkins. The most popular item in the store are the journals.
Having just recently heard about Gurglepots, I was surprised to find them displayed on the back wall. A Gurglepot is a fish shaped water pitcher that gurgles when water is poured out of the pot. Gurglepot salt and pepper shakers are also on display, (these do not gurgle).

Day 55: Christmas Dinner
Looking for dinner options on Christmas Day? The Marcus Whitman Hotel has planned a special Christmas dinner. The Marc Restaurant has a warm atmosphere for a casual yet elegant dining experience.

Day 53: Ice Skating
The YWCA Ice Chalet has provided Walla Walla Valley residents with loads of fun since 1965. Currently the Ice Chalet is being run by Jodi Alden and her husband Nate, who also teach hockey and figure skating fundamentals. The Ice Chalet provides many different outlets for you to enjoy skating. They offer public skating, kids skate, family skate, and birthday packages, physical education classes for the local colleges, figure skating clubs, adult leagues, hockey school and even “Cheap Skate” during local school holidays. All of this is done in an affordable fashion where you can take the whole family but not break the bank account. They also have two recitals one during the holidays and another in the spring where they showcase the local talent. If you are interested in skating classes or hockey classes they are still accepting registrations for these classes that begin the first week of January. The Ice Chalet is open September through April and is located on the corner of First and Birch St in Walla Walla.

Day 51: Bachtold Christmas Trees
Operated by Jon and Christine Bachtold and their Children Brittany & Ed, this family christmas tree operation has been around for 60 years. Aided by longtime helpers Dan Lynch, Jeff Dunn, Eric Flowers, Mike Boozer and sometimes Marty lynch. The Bachtold Family is very friendly and helpful in picking out just the right tree. With a large variety and assortment of trees to choose from (the very small to the lrg 10 ft), their signature tree is the beautiful Noble Fir. The Bachtolds also plant three seedlings for every 1 tree they harvest. They also offer handmade wreaths and fir boughs to decorate your home with. Another nice feature is the custom made tree stands that they will attach to the tree for you. Located just 1⁄2 block South of Pioneer park they are easy to find and access.

Day 50: Olive Marketplace & Cafe
The Olive Marketplace & Cafe is located on Main Street in the heart of downtown Walla Walla. This popular marketplace and café offers an exciting food experience for dining in or cooking at home. The café serves quiche, pastries and fruit for breakfast, salads, sandwiches, and pizza at lunch time and pasta, salads, pizza, and pasta for dinner. Day 49: Hansel and Gretel Houses
The tradition continues! On Wednesday, December 2nd, from 1pm-4pm the annual Hansel and Gretel House event will be held at the YWCA. There will be three, one hour sessions: 1pm-2pm, 2pm-3pm and 3pm-4pm. All ages are welcome and all materials will be provided. The fee to participate is $5 per person.

Day 48: Tiki Teriyaki Grille
Walk into a bit of Hawaii at the Tiki Teriyaki Grille in Walla Walla . When you walk through the doors of the Tiki Teriyaki Grille it feels like you have just walked into a bit of Hawaii . The Grille is one of a kind. It does not have a franchise and all of the recipes for the entrees (island grinds) on the menu are passed down from family members in Hawaii . Below are a few of the most popular island grinds:
The Duke’s Teriyaki Beef: Boneless/tender Tri-tip marinated 2 days in our teriyakis sauce then flame grilled.
Teriyaki Chicken: Boneless/tender chicken marinated in our teriyaki sauce then to the grill.
Both island grinds are served island bento style with rice and Hawaiian Mac Salad.
For refreshments the Grille serves Hawaiian shave ice drinks and Maui Smoothies along with punch, tea, and fountain drinks. A kids Keiki (kids) menu is available for those that are 12 or under.

Day 47: YMCA's Saturday Night Live
Saturday Night Live at the YMCA is free for all middle school age kids with middle school ID. This after hours program provides a safe and supervised place for middle school kids to go and hang out with their friends. Big Cheese Pizza even donates pizza. Saturday Night Live starts November 6th and goes through March 26. It starts at 7pm and ends at 9pm. The only Saturdays that the program won’t be open is December 25th, January 1st, February 12th and February 19th. The YMCA is located at the corner of Birch and Park Street in Walla Walla .

Day 46: Walla Walla Christmas Bird Count
The Walla Walla Christmas bird count has been an annual event in Walla Walla since 1973. Audubon and other organizations use data collected in the longest-running wildlife census to assess the health of bird populations and to help guide conservation action. The 15 mile count radius is divided into several assigned routes. Volunteers simply count every bird they see or hear on their route. Experienced bird watchers will be paired with novices. The count lasts all day or however long it takes to complete the route. The volunteers will meet for supper at the end of the day. Bird count volunteers will be meeting the morning of the event, at 7:30 a.m. at Harper Joy Theatre parking lot on the Whitman College campus. Golden Horse Restaurant has been operating in the Walla Walla Valley for almost 28 years! Owners Peter and Milli Wong came from Hong Kong to Walla Walla and opened the restaurant here because they felt Walla Walla was a great place to raise their three children.
